the plane ride to Brazil

A thirteen year old girl called Ruby was on a plane to Brazil and crashed on a tropical island. So she goes to find a spot to set up camp for the night. After a while she looks at her watch and it was twelve o,clock then she looks behind her into the darkness of the cave and saw..... gloomy red eyes staring at her face. She was then pulled into the darkness of the cave.Seconds later there was a ear splitting scream and she was gone.

The Holidays

I hope everybody has had a relaxing holiday. It has been great to see some nice weather as well. What has been the highlight of your holidays?
I have really enjoyed having some sleep ins and reading lots of books, but the highlight was being able to go to the semi final between the All Blacks and the Wallabies on Sunday night at Eden Park.

Let's hope the All Blacks have another great win this Sunday night!

Aardhyn's Mr Blob animation

Thank you to our pent-a-blogging friends for your very constructive comments and feedback this week. We are all enjoying your suggestions and are looking forward to putting this feedback into our work!

Aardhyn would love some feedback on his Mr Blob animation. You can find it by clicking on his name label. This was his first attempt at an animation and Aardhyn would love to know what you think.

Thanks

Daily Report for Tuesday 13th September

Today Miss Wong visited us from Waiwera South School. She is a new teacher and wanted to see what we do at Silverstream School.

This is a photo of a group finding the key words in a text about Ancient Egypt. Key words are like keys - they unlock the meaning in a sentence. When we are working in groups in Room 2 we sit shoulder to shoulder, knee to knee so we can work together.

After play we had Kelly Sports with AJ and Sean. We were learning rugby skills. We went to three different activities and focussed on three different skills needed for rugby. They were tagging/ripping, dodging/sidestepping (agility) and passing and catching.

We are enjoying reading the comments on the blog from all our pent-a-blogging friends.

That was the daily report for Tuesday. The best thing about today was Kelly Sports.

Daily Report for Monday 12th September

We started the day talking about the RWC. We were excited about looking at the comments that were written by our pent-a-blogging friends.

This picture was taken at Discovery Time. We are learning to show perseverance. The picture is a God's eye. They were hard because it took a while to work out how to make them.

At reading time today, we learnt a new game on the iPad called Bluster. You have to work against a partner to clear your list of words.

Today was exciting and fun.

Pent-a-Blogging

This week we have started an exciting learning challenge called Pent-a-Blogging, with 4 other classes from Otago and Southland. Each week one class is the focus class. The other classes in the group read the focus class's blog or wiki and give them feedback about their work. The next week the focus class changes. Check out the other blogs and wikis on our pent-a-blog page.
As new 'bloggers' this is a really great chance for Room 2 to get some feedback about our blog and we're sure that the other classes will have some great ideas on how we can improve our blog.

Miss Johnston's research assistants - please remember to keep checking in and giving feedback on the writing blog, the link is on the right.

End of Week 3 - A Very Short Week!

Thank you to all of the parents (and children!) who have been commenting on our blog, in particular the children's writing about the Relax and Read chair. We all get very excited to see there are new comments!

Thank you also to those who have returned both the child and parent consent forms for my research. It would be great to have a few more, so if you haven't already, please consider whether you might be able to do so. Let me know if you need a replacement form!

I have added some typing practise websites to our wiki that children might like to have a go at at home.

SNOW!!

I hope you are all enjoying playing in the snow, although it doesn't seem to be quite so fun building a snow man and having snow fights when it is still snowing and the wind is blowing a gale!

Here are some photos from around my house

Can you see what I have taken a photo of? Have a guess...

I thought this looked like a hedgehog!

How are you spending the day?
It might be a good chance to earn some points on Study Ladder or practise your basic facts on our challenge games

We have been enjoying playing Scrabble at home over the weekend. You might have a set that you can play with your family at home today!

The Relax and Read Chair

Finally bought for $75.00 and hoping for a wonderful place to stay, I soon realise that I am being transported to the airport for something unexpected. I was being loaded into the cockpit as the pilot's chair. I was soon fitted with heaps of glittering buttons and switches, along with cup holders that I thought were very annoying and strange. Was I going to spend the rest of my life stuck here? Well, how could I know!
Five years later I was suddenly lifted out of my place and they stripped off my buttons. I was loaded into the boot of a car to be taken to some kind of second-hand shop. I had no idea who or what was going to buy me or would I be thrown out?
Suddenly a kind lady called Miss Johnston happily bought me for a great price. The next day I was taken to a warm classroom where I was moved into a perfect spot and I was positive that this was the best place to spend the rest of my life.

The Arrival of the Relax and Read Chair

Today a new chair arrived in our class. It's almost like magic. Whenever you are in the relax and read chair, you just want to relax and read!

Room 2 wrote stories about the history of the relax and read chair. Here they go...

Relax and Read Chair

Over in Australia there lived a girl named Molly. She was 5 years old. Molly owned a blue and yellow chair. She read books on it, played with her dolls, drew pictures on a piece of paper and loads more. Years passed and Molly was sixteen. She decided to donate the chair to a second hand shop in Dunedin. Molly did that and went home. The chair arrived at the second hand shop. Miss Johnston bought the chair. That’s how the relax and read chair came overseas to room2.

The Relax and Read Chair

The relax and read chair came from the Highlanders. It is yellow and blue.

Relax and Read Chair

One day there was a dirty old chair. It was lonely and sad but one day a little old woman found it. "Well, what do we have here?" she whispered. Without further ado she dragged it all the way home. But, before she grabbed the chair, she went to the second hand shop to buy some granny clothes. The granny was up and working very hard. She soon realised she had to clean the filthy chair.

The Relax and Read Chair

Over in London was a boy who had a blue and gold chair. His name was Buck. He was a very nice boy who loves rugby and, of course, his parents. But most of all he liked his chair. To be continued...

By Trent

The Chair

The relax and read chair is yellow and blue so I think it came from the Highlanders. The Highlanders might have sold the chair because they got too old for it and it's too tiny.

The Relax and Read Chair

Hi. My name is the relax and read chair and today I am going to tell you about my life. When I was three years old, someone bought me from a chair shop. When I got to my new home there was a cat and two children. The cat slept on me for ten minutes. The cat's fur tickled on my leather. When I was five they gave me to the second hand shop because I didn't match. The fuzzy feeling vanished. Then in two weeks a girl bought me. When I got to my new home, everything was blue and yellow but I was purple! So they painted me blue and yellow.

The Blue and Gold Chair

One day a Highlanders fan had a blue and gold chair. He sat down on it every day. A couple of years later they moved to a different house in Dunedin. They moved in and he unpacked. He put his bed in and his posters in and then it came to the blue and gold chair. He moved it every way but it just would not fit. The next week he sent it to the second hand shop. Miss Johnston walked in and thought it would be brilliant for our classroom so she took it to school. The next day I walked through the door and glanced around the room. To be continued...

The Chair of Wonder

One fine summer's day an old leather chair went for a long ride on a boat to New Zealand. The colour of it was grey with a bit of tan on the back of it. It got put in a car and driven to Balclutha. The next day is woke up seeing that the chair ended up in the Chair Shop. That day at about 3.15pm an old man and lady came in. They told the person in the shop that they were looking for a chair to put in their conservatory at their house in Mosgiel. It was for sale for $45. The people said that they would take it. So they put it in the back of their car. To be continued...

The Chair

A little girl called Lucy was five. She had a yellow and blue chair. Every night her mum or dad read a book in her chair. She picked the booked and she laughed. She is 16 now. She didn't want the chair. She sold it to a second hand shop in Dunedin.

The Chair

I walked into the class and saw a chair. Not an ordinary chair. It's the relax and read chair. Its blue and gold. It's so cool. Maybe it came from a Highlander's house. I like it. Miss Johnston bought it.

Sarah

The relax and read chair story

The relax and read chair comes from China. It was transported to NZ. Then it was taken to Farmers. Someone bought it for their child. It was there for many years. The child grew up but still loved it.

Cameron

How the read and relax chair got to room2

One day someone bought a chair. A few days later thay brought it to the second hand shop. On Monday 8th August Miss Johnston came to the second hand shop and found the perfect chair for a read and relax chair.

Using our blog more effectively

How can you see us using our Room 2 blog to share learning with our families? What would you like to see us sharing?
Let's start a conversation about the sorts of things we would like to see happening. Parents - this is your chance to get involved in the blog!

Miss Johnston's goal for next week is to use photo peach to make a photo slideshow of children working in Room 2.

Room 2 - published writers!!

What a wonderful surprise we got this morning when we opened the paper to find Ana's opinion on the front page. Not only that, further through the paper were the opinions of Aardhyn, Angus, Skyla and the rest of Ana's! Awesome work Room 2!

The ODT poll found that 90.4% of people wanted the jersey to stay the same, with 9.6% wanting a change to a green and blue jersey.

What do our readers think?
Take the poll below!

What colour should the Highlanders jersey be?
Blue, Gold and Maroon
Green and Blue

Green or Blue? What colour should the Highlander's jersey be?

Room 2 read the article in today's ODT. We wrote our own opinions about whether the Highlander's jersey should be blue or green. Here are some of our opinions. We have also emailed the ODT with some of our ideas... will we get published?

Mrs Pridham's opinion surprised us!
